More From My Book

Here is more from my book, "Linzzy Morgen". It's not edited.

Dark. It was in the midst of the night when only the owls should be awake. Rebecca shot up in her sleep. She heard the sound of a stick breaking. She looked around and what she saw was… nothing. Nothing at all, but Linzzy’s empty bed and nightstand. Someone was outside. Linzzy was gone, and the room was a gloomy black. She could hardly see her own hands. Then she heard it again. Another stick being broken and another and another, as if some one running through a pile of sticks. The only place with sticks that Rebecca could think of was the woods. She could hear the stream running beside her with a cold sound to it. She curled under her blanket, hoping for the sounds to go away.
Finally after about three minutes when the night was still full of noise, Rebecca couldn’t stand it any longer. She had to know who was outside. She crawled out of her bed, slipped on her shoes and coat, and cautiously walked out of her shack. She ventured toward the woods timidly.

More:

“They know,” a voice said plainly. Jacob pulled himself into a sitting position from there in his straw bed. He saw, standing in the doorway, the shape of a person. The wind was blowing violently. The moonlight cast a shadow on the floor in front of him. The person’s long hair blow untimely in the wind. Rain purred down behind her. Linzzy stepped into the cold stale room. Her hair was drenched in water. She had on an old shawl. She stepped toward them. Jacob stood up and lit the candle that sat on the old table.

More:

Dawn broke the night’s bitterness. Slowly the sun peered up from behind the peaks of the trees, as the owls crawled back into their homes. A thin wispy fog settled across the countryside. As water dripped off the leaves, there was a wet feeling lingering in the air from the previous night. The birds crooned their sunrise songs. The lush grass blew in the light cool wind while leaves swirled about as if in the midst of a dance. Animals stirred about the farmyard. Cows called for their morning meal and horses whinnied from their stalls. In the midst of it all was a girl with brown hair, no shoes, and a ragged dress.
